Veterans Day — “They Stood for Us – Now Stand for Them”
Hundreds Pay Tribute at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King

WDVA Board Member Dan Naylor gives Veterans Day speech

(KING) – The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King hosted their 2009 Veterans Day Program on Wednesday, November 11th in the Marden Memorial Center in King, Wisconsin to honor America’s veterans for their noble service and sacrifice.

Mr. Dan Naylor, Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Board Member, was the keynote speaker for the event and delivered a heartfelt speech to an audience with tear filled eyes. The Waupaca High School Choir under the direction of Kristen Sporakowski performed a variety of patriotic songs and band students, Katie Sroka and Kyle Leaf sounded Taps to add a regal piece to the morning’s program. The Wisconsin Veterans Home King Honor Guard and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Military Funeral Honors Team added the ceremonial posting and retiring of colors along with the very stirring Three Volley Salute.

Special guests included:  Suzanne Brault-Pagel, representing U.S. Senator Russ Feingold’s office; Ron Lecker, representing U.S. Congressman Steve Kagen’s office; Marlene Mielke, representing U.S. Senator Kohl’s office; Jon LiDonne, the Waupaca County Veteran Service Officer; and members of the King Recreation Committee.

“On behalf of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, a sincere thank you is extended to everyone who attended the morning’s program,” said Jackie Moore, Acting Commandant of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. “I encourage you to take time not only on Veterans Day, but throughout the year, and continue to honor the 427,000 Wisconsin veterans and almost 6,000 military members who are currently serving,” added Moore.
