POW-MIA Recognition Day to be observed at Wisconsin Veterans Museum
Ceremony will include former Prisoners Of War

(MADISON) – The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs will present a POW-MIA Recognition Day ceremony at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum on Friday, September 19, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. – noon.

2001 Wisconsin Act 100 states that each year the Governor of Wisconsin shall proclaim the third Friday of September as POW-MIA Recognition Day in Wisconsin, to recognize the sacrifices of those persons who suffered or still suffer in captivity as Prisoners of War or were or remain Missing In Action while in service with the U.S. Armed Forces or forces incorporated as U.S. Armed Forces.

In 2008, the third Friday of September occurs on the 19th of the month; National POW-MIA Recognition Day is also being observed on September 19, 2008.

The public is invited to the ceremony. Special attendees will include former prisoners of war and members of veterans service organizations. A proclamation by Governor Jim Doyle will be read.
