State to Hold Veterans’ Campus Outreach Event at UW – Whitewater

(MADISON) – The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) and the UW – Whitewater will co-host an outreach event – a Veterans’ Benefits Campus Open House – on the UW – Whitewater Campus on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The location is the University Center, 800 West Main Street, Whitewater.

The event will provide information and assistance regarding federal and state veterans’ benefits, programs and services, and a special emphasis on education benefits, including the new federal Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Wisconsin GI Bill. Current and prospective student-veterans and veterans from the surrounding areas, as well as their families, are welcome at this event.

WDVA staff and school veterans’ officials will be available to discuss federal and state education programs and services, and to assist veterans in applying for benefits. Providers will also include benefits and health care staff from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), addressing the needs of veterans recently returned from active duty. Additional representatives will include employment specialists from the Department of Workforce Development and the Jefferson, Walworth and Dodge County Veterans Service Officers (CVSO) as well as various veterans’ service organizations.

This fall similar events have or will be held at UW campuses in Madison, Oshkosh, Green Bay, La Crosse, Milwaukee and Stevens Point and Technical College campuses in Madison, La Crosse, Green Bay, Appleton and Milwaukee.
