Hire a Veteran Week (Nov. 8-14, 2009)

(MADISON) – November 8th marked the beginning of Hire a Veteran Week (Nov. 8-14, 2009), for the purpose of encouraging Wisconsin employers to hire veterans and to educate employers and veterans of the employment resources that are available to assist in the seamless transition of veterans into the workforce.

Each year the Governor proclaims November 11 as Veterans Day in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) Veterans Day Theme for 2009 is “They Stood by Us – Now Stand for Them.”

As part of Veterans Day, the 2007 Wisconsin Act 22, the State of Wisconsin has declared that the seven-day period that ends on November 11 (Nov. 5-11, 2009) be proclaimed by the Governor as Veterans Recognition Week in Wisconsin and the week of November that starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday in which November 11 falls (Nov. 8-14, 2009) be proclaimed by the Governor as “Hire a Veteran Week” in Wisconsin.

The department’s Veterans Day page at www.WisVets.com/VeteransDay includes information about Veterans Day to include the Governor’s proclamations declaring Veterans Day, Veterans Recognition Week, and Hire a Veteran Week in Wisconsin.

In addition find out about Veterans Day Programs and Ceremonies taking place in your community. (If you know of an event but it is not listed please let us know so we can add it.)

You will also find the 2009 Presidential Veterans Day Proclamation, Secretary’s column, and other information including Veterans Day History, Veterans Day Links with suggested activities for Veterans Day, the Origin of Veterans Day, Veterans Data, VA 2009 Veterans Day Teachers Resource Guide, WDVA Resources for Teachers as well as the Veterans Day poster.
