The Wisconsin Department of Veteran Affairs (WDVA) has partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WDHS) to create and implement the Veterans Outreach and Recovery Program (VORP) to assist homeless and chronically homeless Veterans in receiving housing and support for behavioral health treatment and substance abuse services. As an organization that supports Veterans and their families, WDVA sees multiple benefits by the creation of VORP. It is our goal through outreach, partnerships and programs to help eliminate Veterans’ homelessness in Wisconsin.
WDVA is in favor of partnering with several cities, counties, Veteran and non-profit organizations to meet the needs of chronically homeless Veterans in rural Wisconsin. There is a huge gap in treatment for rural areas and current programs are not equipped to provide Veterans with needed services.
VORP specialists provides outreach in the northern rural areas of Wisconsin. The Outreach and Recovery Specialists will establish collaborative relationships with County Behavioral Health Agencies who may provide direct treatment in addition to coordinating and working with all Veterans Service Organizations, County Veterans Service Officers, Non-Profit Organizations, Law Enforcement, federal agencies and all other interested stakeholders for housing and mental health treatment of homeless and at risk Veterans.
